The biggest full-text database of rock music writing in the world...
Rock’s Backpages is a library of over 17,000 full-text articles (reviews, interviews, features and more) on over 2,500 artists from the early 1960s to the present. In addition to the text articles, they also provide exclusive mp3 audio files of original source interviews. Articles range from 500-word album (or concert) reviews to 10,000-word interviews and features.
Many of the periodicals represented in this collection are out-of-print and difficult to locate in any format. You'll find articles from Melody Maker, Trouser Press, Cash Box, Circus (originally founded as Hullabaloo), Crawdaddy, Discoveries (a monthly for collectors of rock, pop, country & western, R & B, doo wop, and jazz), and Sounds, as well as more well-known publications such as Billboard, Creem, and others.
All you need to do to check it out is go to www.rocksbackpages.com and start exploring. Their servers are set to allow access from all K-State IP addresses, so as long as you’re on campus you should be automatically signed in. Trial access is available through April 22, 2011. Contact Thomas Bell (thosbell@k-state.edu; 532-3366) with questions.
Rock's Backpages is really cool. Plus, it brought back a lot of memories of my childhood music world. Everyone needs to check this out...
