Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Finals Week

Hello, finals takers! Your K-State librarians want nothing but the best for you, so here's a little info to help you out.

Finals schedule: The fall 2010 finals schedule for K-State, just in case you're too addled to know what test is next.

Hale Library hours: This one is easy.  We're open. No exceptions.

Hale quiet zone changes: 2nd floor and the 24 hour study/Einstein's area are where you should head if you need to talk or do group work. Every place else in Hale is quiet from Saturday until finals are done. Please try to be considerate of those stressed out folks near you; Hale is historically packed starting the weekend before finals, so every little bit helps. Ask at the Help Desk if you need help convincing your fellow studiers to keep it quiet.

Free Stuff: We'll have coffee, tea, and snacks for you from 10pm to midnight on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights during our annual semester-ending Caffeine Fix. Just head to the Help Desk when you hear the announcement and we'll hook you up.

Best of luck to all of you, and congrats on making it through another semester.  We'll miss you while you're gone on break!

Einstein Brother’s Bagels will be closing tonight at 7 pm

Einstein Brother’s Bagels will be closing at 7pm tonight in preparation for our ribbon cutting ceremony tomorrow.

Please join us at 9 am, Wednesday, Sept. 15 as the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to welcome the newest business to the Manhattan community.

Einstein Brothers Bagels will reopen after the event.

Einstein Brothers Bagels Grand Opening Today

Today is the grand opening of Einstein Brothers Bagels! First 100 customers in line get a free breakfast for a year. Check it out.  Doors open at 7am. 

Free Coffee at Hale Library Sun-Tue night

We know you've been working hard, studying for finals. If you are studying in Hale Library Sunday through Tuesday 10 pm - 12 am, be sure to stop by the 5th floor for some coffee. If you're not a coffee fan, we'll also have tea, cinder, and chocolate. If you need a break, feel free to play a little Wii. Sometimes that helps your brain retain information better. I'm sure I read that somewhere...

Don't worry about forgetting, we'll make an announcement when we're ready to serve it up.

What's your favorite music video?

What's your favorite music video, song, or artist? I'm making a YouTube playlist to show during our next Caffeine Fix and need your suggestions! Don't be shy, I'm looking for variety. I'll play any (legally uploaded) video :-)

Latin dance party in the library

I was tip toeing through YouTube EDU and discovered this video from Duke University.

They hosted the party to introduce students and staff to Latin culture. We need to do this here. How can we make this happen???

Farmers Market outside of Hale Library

I love the farmers market. I've tried growing edible things in the past, but failed miserably. The earth hates me and I hate it. It's sad, but I'm over it. Now I rely on the farmers market for my fresh and local produce. If you too are interested in local produce and can't wait until the next Manhattan Farmers Market, I suggest hitting the Willow Lake Student Farm stand outside of Hale Library. They set up every Tuesday around 11 am and are open until 3 pm or when they run out of stuff.

Baking cookies in your car

We're pretty proud of our cookery collection here at K-State Libraries, but I'm willing to bet that our ginormous collection doesn't include this baking technique: baking cookies on your car's dashboard. 

Obviously, you can't do this just any day. It needs to be a hot day.  Real hot.  Like today.  Or tomorrow. Or this whole summer. Basically, if the NOAA temperature map is yellow and orange as it is today, you're good to go.

And you might want to use an eggless cookie dough, or use an egg substitute, or I've recently (okay, today) heard tell of pasteurized eggs.

I haven't tried this myself, and I'm curious as to whether we can entice Doug or the other folks at Barfblog to do some kind of test run for us.

Take a break and come to the Caffeine Fix!

I spent a good part of my morning yesterday testing Guitar Hero World Tour (I know - it's a tough job, but someone has to do it). Why was I doing this, you ask? In preparation for the Caffeine Fix! If you are studying in Hale Library Sunday-Tuesday, 10 pm-midnight make sure to stop by! We’ll have refreshments (coffee, tea, snacks) to fuel your study sessions, and games, including Guitar Hero, to work off your studying stress. The best part? It’s all free! And, if you've got a mug of your own, bring it with you - you can really maximize your caffeine intake that way.
