Kansas State University Libraries in Manhattan, KS are seeking an Acquisitions Specialist. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a growing department within a dynamic environment of rapidly changing models. This individual will provide leadership in acquisitions services that include digital collections, e-books, profile plans and patron selected acquisition; will supervise staff approximately 2 FTE; and will work closely with other units in the department (serials management and resource sharing) to develop shared processes and efficiencies. This is a full-time twelve month position that reports to the Head of Content Development and Acquisitions
Core Responsibilities:
- Maintain overall responsibility for workflow, procedures, and quality of output related to electronic and print acquisitions
- Manage human resources within the unit
- Develop policies and procedures and evaluate unit activities to determine needed improvements and processing priorities
- Monitor expenditures and fund accounts; prepare financial, statistical, and unit activity reports.
- Keep abreast of vendor and system innovations and analyze workflow impact on the unit and the delivery of acquisition services
- Work closely with the Resource Linking Librarian to develop and maintain expertise in the Libraries’ OpenURL link resolver and related technologies; contribute to the maintenance of the resolver knowledgebase
- Trouble-shoot and resolve user access and invoicing problems
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Supervisory experience with proven ability to supervise, train, and motivate employees
- Experience with library applications such as an integrated library system (e.g. Voyager), an electronic resource management system (e.g. Verde), and/or an OpenURL link resolver (e.g. SFX)
- Ability to understand basic library system architecture and interaction of library information systems; willingness to embrace new technologies
- Aptitude or interest in book and serials publishing, book/serials vendor services, and current electronic access issues (e.g. access vs. ownership, publishing platforms, holdings reports, etc.)
- Strong organizational skills and demonstrated expertise or aptitude for project management
- Ability to pay attention to detail, and to learn, understand, and navigate complex workflows
- Intermediate skill with MS Office applications, especially Excel, and client/web-based system interfaces
- Ability to think critically and apply knowledge of best practices in new and unique situations while making independent decisions
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong service orientation
- Ability and willingness to work successfully with diverse groups on the staff and in the university
- Ability and willingness to work successfully with colleagues in collaborative and team environments as well as independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise or aptitude for fund accounting and budget preparation
- Demonstrated understanding of basic principles of bibliographic control and metadata
- Advanced skill with MS Office applications, especially Excel
- Knowledge of one or more foreign languages
