Les Amities Malefiques

Les Amities Malefiques (or The Poison Friends in English), will be showing on April 29th, in Forum Hall as part of the Francophone Film Series going on this month.

The film is in French with English subtitles. The movie begins as Eloi and Alexandre meet Andre on the first day of the academic year. Seduced by his cool behavior, charisma and intelligence, they easily fall prey to his charm. Andre offers them friendship and mentoring in return for a pledge of loyalty. Overcome with admiration, Eloi and Alexandre bow to the harsh discipline until the day that he leaves them pretending he has earned a scholarship at an American University. Suddenly left to their own devices, Eloi and Alexandre have nobody to turn to and must grow up.

La Moustache

The movie La Moustache will be playing in Forum Hall tonight at the K-State Union at 7 p.m. as part of the Francophone Film Series.

Here is the movie plot I found online: "One day, on a whim, Marc decides to shave off the mustache he’s worn all of his adult life. He waits patiently for his wife’s reaction, but neither she nor his friends seem to notice. Stranger still, when he finally tells them, they all insist he never had a mustache. Is Marc going mad? Is he the victim of some elaborate conspiracy? Or has something in the world’s order gone terribly awry?"
You can also check out the youtube clip above to give you an idea what the movie is about. It is all in French, but don't worry, there are subtitles for those of us who don't speak the language but are still interested.

Romero

Romero_3 The movie Romero is going to be shown on Tuesday, March 4th at 6:30 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the First Congressional UCC church at the corner of Juliette and Poyntz.

'Romero' is the true story of the catholic priest Archbishop Oscar
Romero who lived in El Salvador during the political unrest in the
1980s.  The government has launched a 'terror campaign' against the
guerillas in an attempt to crush them.  Archbishop Romero's protests
against governments' actions are perceived as disloyalty.  As an
example to others, the government begins to destroy churches and murder
priests.  Despite persecution, Romero continues to speak out against
the atrocities the government is committing against the people of El
Salvador, until his untimely death.  A powerful movie not widely seen
since its release nearly 20 years ago.

                                    Rated PG-13     1989     102 minutes.
