It is impossible to completely avoid contact with those nasty flu germs that are filling the air and lounging on keyboards, door handles and stair railings, but we can take common sense measures to avoid as many as possible. According to one study at UC Berkeley "students at UC Berkeley touch their face an average of 16 times per hour. That is 384 times to transmit what ever is on your hands into mucus glands located in your mouth, eyes, and nose in one day."*
Keep those hands clean! Wash them often and use hand sanitizer. Here in Fiedler we have a convenient can of sanitizer wipes that can be used for your hands or at the workstation you go to. If you wipe down the keyboard, mouse and arm rest before you start to work, that should reduce your chance of picking up a germ left from someone who came before you.
I know of at least one case of H1N1 flu for someone who frequently uses Fiedler Library. There are probably many more sick folks than I know personally. If we all pitch in to try to keep things clean, the better off we all are.
Stay healthy!!
