Moving Beyond Paper 2008 - short list

My short list of publishers would be:

ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) Did we decide we could not do these?
Baywood   http://www.baywood.com/
Cambridge
Lawrence Earlbaum Associates (LEA purchased by T & F 2007)
Caliber - University of Calif.  (we did print + on these during 2007)
Haworth Press (54 titles;  ? in print) (purchased by T & F 2008)
Palgrave Macmillian  http://www.palgrave-journals.com/pal/index.html

I created a folder for in the E-Resource Work Group for Online availablity reports and placed in the files from Ebsco and Harrassowitz. I  will add the Swets list when I get it. They are sorted by publishers.

Moving Beyond Paper 2008

I have just sent an appointment for Jan 15 to decide which subscriptions to target and about our status for MVP2007.

At Char's suggestion, Mary Bailey is now contacting Swets, Harrasowitz, and EBSCO to get lists of all titles they supply to us in paper or paper+ which have e-only as a purchase option.  From these lists we should be able to get a sense of publishers or packages to target.

Mary also has a short list she will post to the blog, and my short list includes Wolters Kluwer, CUP, M.E. Sharpe, and Bioscientifica.

As well, Beth, Tim, and I are finalizing a proposal for an "Annual Collections Analysis" plan for review by the Collections Strategic Planning Working Group.  This plan would create an annual review based on cost per use for journals, databases, and standing orders.  We plan to run a finalized version by Collections Team on Jan. 17.

Cambridge UP in SFX

In response to Char's info, I'm posting an export of the currently active Cambridge titles in SFX. While this isn't the last word on our CUP subscriptions, it may be a clue as to how many and which titles we're talking about.

Phase III - Cambridge UP?

Since we just had a title move to CUP and need to make a decision on one, I pulled up the 2008 price list from their website.  If we want to move CUP into the Phase III investigation, we'll need to use the attached to identify what titles we actually subscribe to.  I've sent an initial inquiry off to the publisher asking about site licenses.  Apparently we do NOT currently have a license with them.

Highwire Press Publishers/Titles

Here is a spreadsheet of all portfolios in the universe of Highwire Press targets. I deleted the Highwire_Blackwell and Highwire_Oxford targets identified as already migrated.
You'll find that the remaining portfolios are both active and inactive. "Active" means we have some access and the item is turned on in SFX. "Inactive" means that we (probably) have no access and the item is turned off in SFX. I included the inactive items in the interest of identifying as many relevant titles and publishers as possible.
Please let me know if you have questions.

SFX spreadsheet update ...

with answer's to most of Char's questions.  I don't believe there is more than one or two of these light yellow titles worth looking at this coming year.   Possibilities might be Pion, Ltd and Mulitlingual Matters and Channel View.

Follow up to Phase 3 Publishers

I've marked up (from memory) Jamene's spreadsheet.  Mary may be able to confirm some of the question marks I left.   The bright yellow highlighted titles are ones we could consider for phase 3, plus potentially a couple I have questioned or am unsure of.   My suggestion would be that we look at the titles we get via Highwire Press because they may be more receptive to perpetual access just because of their association with Highwire.  I may be completely off on that one, but it's a starting point.

Haworth Access

I'm attaching a spreadsheet of the Haworth Journal thresholds (holdings) I customized in September. This information is direct from Haworth. Even so, you'll see some funny things - titles we supposedly have access to that don't exist yet in the Haworth interface, for example.

Haworth has just upgraded their Web site within the past two weeks, but their search and browse interface didn't change with that upgrade. I'll also note here that Haworth has never given SFX article-level linking - they offer volume-level linking at best. Given these factors, I suggest we seriously discuss implications for users before moving these titles online only.

Please let me know prior to our meeting if you have questions about this spreadsheet.

Shortcut to Phase 3 Publishers

After discussing with Beth ways we could filter out publishers for Phase 3, I have run an SFX report that shows all our active targets. Just for review, a target is a place to get full-text information. Sometimes it's an aggregator like EBSCO. Sometimes it's a combination of a publisher and an interface, like the American Mathematical Society journals on Highwire. It's these latter targets that I think interest us and that could be useful to us in identifying Phase 3 publishers. SFX only shows electronic access, but with many society publications online access comes with print subscriptions. Reviewing a list of electronic access to society publishers may also help us remember other publishers we've missed.

I believe we will be working with this spreadsheet during our Tuesday meeting, so please review it ahead of time and let me know if you have any questions.
