SFX product update
Christine Stohn
Ex Libris
SFX 4 is the development platform for the future; there will be no more development on SFX version 3. Goal is to have all customers migrated by the end of 2011.
2011 plans:
Quarterly Service Packs: include bug fixes and small enhancements.
4.1.2 is due 5/16/2011; includes moving wall and embargo enhancements.
--Issue: Month, issue information is often missing from OpenURLs
--Result: SFX does not calculate/display the correct availability for the requested article
--Behavior: False negatives - users don't get full text links even though full text is available
With the service pack:
If no month is sent in the OpenURL and in the event of an embargo, SFX will show full text links for the entire year - this may result in false positives but Ex Libris thinks this is preferable to false negatives. There is a configurable option to add a warning to the menu in these cases.
A question from the audience asked whether there would ever be the possibility of a "maybe" answer to the question, "Is there full text?" An SFX developer present indicated that yes, this is the direction they're headed but it needs more work because a "maybe" answer could cause problems for current display logic options.
4.1.3 is due 8/2011: includes duplicate prevention, LCCN prefix correction, cleanup scripts
4.1.4 us due 11/2011: includes additional KB update report filters

Status and plans:
2011:
--More vendor SUSHI reports (partially complete)
--Support for COUNTER code of practice Release 3 for DB1 (report segment is complete)
--Cost per use (conceptual design now in progress) - purpose is to report information customers say is fundamental. In the current design, cost will be entered at the platform, publisher, and title levels. 1st release will likely involve uploading cost data via Excel files. For subsequent releases they are looking at other ways to get cost data more automatically. A tentative release date for this functionality is Q4 2011.
