Not Just Drifting: Checking Online Serial Issue Availability
With the move from print to electronic, libraries need to determine ways for checking whether or not users have access. While no viable solutions currently exist, librarians do know the elements that will be needed in a successful system: an automated process to provide access information; consistent standardized holdings information; systems which can talk back and forth; subscription agents tools to verify and work with information; ERM standardized data formats; and link resolver and A-Z communication standardized data. The problem is, at present, no existing system incorporates all these elements. This leaves libraries with minimally effective surveys, email, charts, and reports to determine if there is light through the tunnel.
