Early Sunday a.m., I attended the Networked Resources and Metadata Interest Group meeting. Handouts from the presentation are available on the ALA conference wiki. The guest speaker was Laura Dorricott, Project Delivery Manager, Taxonomy Services, Dow Jones Client Solutions who spoke about how taxonomies are developed.
The highlight of the meeting occurred during the reports section when Steven Miller provide the CC:DA RDA update. He stated CC:DA wants RDA to move forward, but believes the following issues merit concern:
- RDA draft contains poor technical writing
- Pricing model and online interface still need to be seen
- Would like to see a print option for those unable to afford the online model
- Would like to see emphasis on implementation as they believe the current draft of RDA would be difficult to train others to use.
