Cake!
Kaus thought she promised cake for this meeting instead of the June meeting, so we got carrot cake with yummy cream cheese icing. More importantly, she will still supply her infamous rum cake for the June meeting, if we remind her a few days ahead of time. (Subtle nudges, people, we don't want to annoy the baker!)
Announcements
Key match lightning round will happen during a future all staff meeting.
Construction, desk closures, and Web pages
We are not the web content police. However, now would be a good time for all content creators to review their pages and make any necessary adjustments. Tiny incremental changes now could save us from an overwhelming avalanche down the line.
If you're browsing the web site and find out of date references, let the content owner know that they might want to update their page.
LibraryThing for Libraries
The value of having LibraryThing for Libraries content far outweighs the empty labels for those items without extra content. Dale will be sending a message to all staff about LibraryThing for Libraries.
Interfaces and the Reorganization
The team looked at the new organization chart with the intent of determining where the functions performed by the team would most appropriately fit. Because the team is already a matrix (pulling individuals from across the organization together to work on a common goal) focus turned toward the Coordinator for these functions.
Valid arguments could be made for inclusion in Marketing and Communications, Library Planning and Assessment, and Systems. Coordinating and long range planning for the libraries interfaces requires constant awareness of being the libraries' public face, continual assessment of user needs (public and staff) and a solid relationship with the technical aspects. It was also noted that the position could be seen as a bridge between the others.
The team attempted to articulate the essential qualities for a coordinator. Understanding/awareness of what is and is not possible within current technological constraints (and potential alternative paths around obstacles) is very important. Even more important is ownership. LIT has been successful in recent years because those with ideas were empowered to follow them through to fruition.
Technology changes rapidly and our constituency is in constant turnover. In order to maintain a connection to our target audience, we need to remain innovative and respond quickly to their changing needs/desires.
The team does feel that there needs to be a person whose job is to coordinate the functions that LIT fulfills/oversees, but how this is to be accomplished is still very nebulous. The team will revisit this topic in future meetings to try and refine its thoughts on where LIT (in whatever form) fits into this new organization chart.
