One idea we might consider is using quotes from authors.

Here's one I think is interesting:

Books are lighthouses erected in the great sea of time.
- Edwin P. Whipple

here's a couple I found...

"A book has but one voice, it does not instruct everyone alike."
Thomas Kempis

"There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well-written, or badly written. That is all."
Oscar Wilde (My favorite)

"A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted. You should live several lives while reading it.”
William Styron

“A truly great library contains something in it to offend everyone."
Jo Godwin

"An original idea. That can't be too hard. The library must be full of them."
Stephen Fry (My absolute favorite)

I kinda like the idea of going with a quote about the library itself, since there are so many other things but books there too, ya know? What do you think?

Let's go with the Jo Godwin. It has a bit more punch than the Oscar Wilde while conveying the same general idea (i.e., censorship is bad). It also focuses on the Library rather than on books; splitting hairs maybe, but I see a distinction (libraries have more than books).

My second choice is the Stephen Fry, but I still think Jo Godwin has more punch.

I like all of your suggestions, Marlo. I especially fond of Wilde's quote and Godwin's.
